Goods in: Settings and buffer locations

There are a number of settings for goods ins in Lagersystem. To change the settings, select Setup -> Warehouse setup and then select the Goods in tab.

• Look up barcode: This function makes it possible to use the items' barcodes when importing a goods in file, if, for example, you don't have item numbers on a purchase order or similar that you want to import. Read more about importing goods ins here.
• Exclude items without item number: When importing goods ins, Lagersystem will automatically skip lines in the import file if there are lines that do not contain an item number in the item number column.
• Allow receiving of extra items: With this setting, it is possible to receive more than what is specified in the goods in. If you receive more than the expected quantity, the extra items can still be received on the handheld terminal and will be counted in the subsequent stock regulation for the item. Without this setting, you will be told that you have scanned more items than are on the goods in. This setting does not work on all backend systems.
• Automatic release: With this setting, Lagersystem will automatically release goods ins if all data on the goods in can be validated. This way, you can in some cases save a step and ensure that goods ins are always ready on the handheld terminal. Read more about releasing goods ins here.
• Buffer location setting: Enables buffer locations in connection with goods ins. Read more about buffer locations in the section further down.
• Preselected series: Here you can enter the ID of a location series if you want Lagersystem to always assign locations from a specific location series to new items. You can also enter -1 if you always want to select the location series manually. Read more about location series here.
• Show goods ins on handheld terminal with delivery date: If you have goods ins created with a delivery date, you can use this setting to control when they should appear on the handheld terminal. By default, Lagersystem automatically "hides" goods ins that lie in the future from the overview on the handheld terminal. If the setting is set to 7, goods ins with a delivery date up to 7 days ahead will be shown.

Use buffer locations in goods ins

A buffer location is a specific location where you can place items in connection with a goods in. The buffer location is a kind of temporary location for items you know you'll need soon, for example for open customer orders. This way, you can quickly set aside items you know you'll need, without having to go and fetch them from their normal location.

An example could be that you have sold items on presale, so you have many open orders for an item that you haven't received into stock yet.

If you set Buffer location setting to Ask if item is on open order, Lagersystem will ask whether you want to place items on a buffer location if the system can see that there are open orders for that item.

For example, if you have 10 open orders for a specific item and you've received 20 units of it, you can place 10 units on the buffer location and place the other 10 units on their normal location in the warehouse. In this case, it would be smart to have a buffer location near your packing table, for instance.

If the Always ask setting is selected, the system will always ask whether you want to place the item on a buffer location, regardless of whether there are open orders for the item or not.

To be able to use buffer locations in the goods in process, you must have created a location series that you have designated as buffer locations. You can read more about that by clicking here.

If you have items registered on a buffer location, the system will automatically ask whether you want to use the item from the buffer location when you process a customer order that contains one of the items registered on a buffer location.

Lagersystem keeps track of how many units of each item you have registered on a buffer location, and automatically reduces the count if an order is processed with an item from a buffer location.
