Driver Version on Zebra 420 Models

If you have one of Zebra's label printers with model number 420, you may find that the driver which is automatically installed when you connect the printer to the computer does not work with Lagersystem Autoprint – even though you can still print labels manually.

The reason is most likely that the printer has been installed with Zebra's ZDesigner version 8 driver. We recommend using the ZDesigner version 5 driver instead.

If this does not solve the problem, your printer may be preloaded with the version 8 driver, which must be removed first.

How do I completely remove Zebra ZDesigner version 8 from the computer?

If your printer is preloaded with the version 8 driver, you will not always be allowed to install version 5, and even if you can, the printer will automatically select the newest (preloaded) driver. Therefore, the preloaded version 8 driver must be removed before the printer switches back to using the installed version 5 driver.

How do I check which driver version I have installed?

To check whether you have version 5 or 8 installed, select the printer in the printer list on your computer and click Manage.

Click Printer properties and then Settings. Under settings you will find the "About" tab, where the version number should be listed. If it starts with 5, you have the correct version.
