Warning for ambiguous barcode: Choose item when scanning
When you scan a barcode during order picking or stock adjustment on the handheld scanner, the system normally looks up the barcode automatically and continues with the item it belongs to. If the same barcode is registered on more than one item, the system cannot automatically determine which item is meant.
How it works
If the system detects that a scanned barcode matches more than one item, the scan is interrupted and a dialog is shown where you must choose item before you can continue. The dialog shows the items the barcode matches, so you can choose the correct one yourself, instead of the system silently choosing the first item it finds.
This check applies in both places on the handheld scanner where scanning is used to find an item:
- During order picking.
- During stock adjustment.
Without this warning, an ambiguous barcode could result in the wrong item being picked or adjusted without you noticing. The warning ensures that you confirm yourself which item is meant, every time there is doubt.
If the warning appears on the handheld scanner, but in your judgment the barcode shouldn't be registered on multiple item numbers, you should review the list of duplicate barcodes and clarify which items should be assigned a different barcode.
